Peter Dill Obituaries

Franklin Democrat, Friday, May 25, 1888, page 5, column 3
Peter Dill of our city is still quite feeble and is confined to his home with heart trouble. He was eighty years old last October and his wife passed her eightieth birthday last month. This venerable couple had been married over fifty-nine years and of their eleven children all but one lived to have families of their own. The many friends of Mr. Dill throughout the county will unite with us in the hope for his recovery from his present illness.

Death of Peter Dill, Sr.
Peter Dill, who has been sick at his home in this city for many months, died on Tuesday evening at 5 o’clock. Mr. Dill was born in Ohio in 1807, but had been a resident of Indiana since 1836. He was married to Emily Patton fifty-nine years ago, who still survives him at the age of eighty years. He moved to Morgan county in 1840, where he remained until 1871 when he removed to this city. Mr. Dill was the father of eleven children, six sons and five daughters, of whom eight are living, five sons and three daughters. In early life he united with the Baptist church but upon the disorganization of that church he joined the Christian church of which he remained a faithful member until death. Mr. Dill was a kind father, a good citizen and an exemplary Christian and in his death it can be said that the community has lost one of its worthiest members. His funeral was preached at the Christian church in this city on Thursday morning at 10:30 o’clock by Elder S. F. Fowler, of Louisville.

Peter Dill, Sr., died Tuesday evening at 4:45 o’clock, at his residence on Madison street, after a long illness, of a complication of diseases principally of a dropsical nature. Peter Dill, Sr., was born in Montgomery county, Ohio, October 2, 1807, and was in consequence 81 years and 21 days of age at the time of his death. About 1836 Mr. Dill moved to Indiana, settling near Logansport, where he remained until 1840, when he moved to Morgan county. In early life he united with the Baptist church, but upon the disorganization of the church of which he was a member, he united with the Christian church of this city sometime after locating here, and had since remained an earnest, confiding member, loved, honored and respected by all who knew him.
Mr. Dill was the father of eleven children, six sons and five daughters, all of whom, except one daughter who died at the age of ten years, lived to maturity.
