Early Bass history began in the coastal Virginia Tidewater. For many years Bass historians claimed descent from one single 17th century Bass immigrant who immigrated from London to the Colony of Virginia in 1619. In later years a contrarian point of view has emerged which points to inconsistencies in records attributed to the immigrant Nathaniel Basse. Was there more than one individual by that name in the earliest days of Colonial Virginia? This researcher is still exploring the possibilities.

Henry Bass was the son of Charles Bass, who died in Southampton Co, VA in 1780. Charles Bass' parentage has not yet been definitively proven. Some researchers attribute him to being the oldest child of Richard Basse (grandson of the above menttioned Nathaniel Basse) and his wife Jane Bryant of Nansemund. But that relationship, although possible, is not probable. If our Charles Basse was the son of Richard and Jane (Bryant) Basse, he would have been 99 years old at death. This seems a very unlikely possibility in 18th century Virginia.

Since Charles Bass was living in Southampton adjacent to what may have been Richard Basse's son James Bass, there is a greater likelihood that Charles of Southampton was a grandson of Richard & Jane (Bryant) Basse. Earlier records exist for a Charles Bass in the area of Isle of Wight County that became Southampton County and in Surry County. Could our Charles Bass have been a son of the earlier Charles Bass? Or was he instead, a son of James Bass who he was living adjacent to? Documentation that would prove the parentage of Charles Bass of Southampton Co, VA would be greatly appreciated.

State of Virginia, Greensville County, sat on this sixth day of May 1833 personally in open Court before Henry Wyche, Drewy Matthews, Simon B. Sykes and John J. Hinton, the Court of the county of Greensville now sitting, Cain Cain a resident ooof the said County of Greensville and State of Virginia aged seventy.... years who being first duly sworn according to law doth on this oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the act of congress passed June 7th 1832 that he entered the service of the United States under the following named officers and served as herein stated that is to say he went as a private in a militia Company from Brunswick County commanded either by Capt. William Batte or Capt. John Maclin he thinks in this particular tour it was the former Capt. Batte this was soon after he was Eighteen years old and before the taking of Norfolk and he thinks twelve or eighteen months after the war commenced he does not recollect the namme of the field officer nor the month or year he entered the sevice nor the precise time he left it in the Town of Portsmouth Virginia. he was afterward called out in the militia on a six weeks tour which he served and was stationed at Chuckatuck in Nansemond County the greated part of the time. At this time he thinks he was commanded by Capt John Maclin he does not recollect the Regt or field officer to which he was attached or commanded. he was called out another tour but cannot recollect whether for six or twelve weeks. he had previous to this time taken the place of his brother Mastin Cain who at the beginning of this his third tour paid back in his turn the time he had served previously for him this service was at or near the town of Petersburg and he was to have joined the army at that place the day the battle was fought there but was driven by the circumstances after battle to cross the Appomattox river some miles or thereabout above Petersburg and join the army the next day at Chesterfield Court House the Coer crossed James River and went to Wilton where he stayed a considerable time and at this time Lafayette joined the Court to which he was attached with two Thousand men. he was called out a fourth time in the militia and was stationed at Surry ole Court House 8until he was taken sic and obtained a furlough. he cannot recollect the length of this tour nor is he sure but thinks and believes it was Capt. Turner Bynum as Capt afterwards MaMajor Thos Cocke he stated back as soon as his health was sufficiently restored for service and joined the army at Richmond the day after Wallaces surrender at Yorktown. His sickness continued several weeks on his return however and report to..... the officer in command Capt. Benj Blunt. he was discharged and....he supposes he lost or mislaid his discharge so that he cannot exhibit it nor has he any documentary evidence and from the lapse of time of his aged infirmity he can add nothing further upon his own knowledge of the... or concerning officers to whose couers he was variously attached he was in no engagement he... ... .... .... ... claim whatsoever to a pension or annuity except the .... and declares that his name is not on the Pension roll of the agency of any state. Sworn to and subscribed on the day and year aforesaid.

Greensville County Sct. This day John Goodrum... a resident of the said County personally appeared before me John J. Hinton a Justice for the said County and made oath that he believes that George Cain of the said County is seventy five years old or thereabouts that he knows that the same George Cain was in the militia and went from the then county of Brunswick and he believes with Capt. John Maclin that the company to which the said Cain was attached marched from Brunswick thru Sury aand crossed James River at the Ferry called Cobham went to Williamburg, Little York and Hampton to Portsmouth Virginia where they were stationed a considerable time that he was at that time attached to the army the not in the same company that he believes the said Cain was called out again probably several times but this applicant cannot tell how long he served in any or either of the tours but that he has known the said Cain from his boyhood having resided near him and mostly in the said County of Greensville ever since the revolutionary war that he believes the said Cain is a man of irreproachable character for integrity and truth given under my hand and seal this fourth day March one thousand eight hundred and thirty three. I George Cain of the County of Greensville in the State of Virginia being now very infirm in body but of sound and disposing mind and memory do make and execute this to be my last will and testament in manner and in form following viz. In primismis. My will and desire is that all of my estate both real and personal will be sold on such order as my executor hereafter to be named and appointed may think proper, allowing to all of my negroes, that care capable of choosing for themselves as t this right of choosing their masters or other persons to purchase them and that these whose not capable of choosing for themselves then parents may choose for the. My wish & desire is that my executor do contract and sell them to such persons as they may make choice of and the money arising from the sales of my negroes and other ? both real and personal together with what money may be then due me by ? and open accounts or which may be then on hand an uncond? to be divested after taaking out so much as I shall hereafter will away, in the following manner Court. First, I give one tenth part to the then living children of my Brother Howard Cain decd. Item, I give one tenth part to the then living children of my brother Mastoon Cain decd. Item I give one tenth part to the then living children of my brother John Cain decd. Item. I give one tenth part to to then living children of Herman Abernathy decd who married my Sister Elizabeth. McLemorre should continue to live with me during my affliction and that my executor pay them for their trouble and attention to me during my affliction. At a Court held for the County of Greensville the 6th day of January 1840. This paper waiting purporting to be the Last Will and testament of George Cain decd was produced unto Court by Thomas Spencer the executor therein named proved accordinnng to law by the oaths of Augustus C. Butts and John P. Hardaway the subscribing witness thereto, and orders to be recorded, as the last will and testament of said George Cain decd. And on the motion of the said executor who made oath thereto the will directing no security to be given entered into and acknowledged a bond in the penalty for $? conditioned as the law directs. Certificate is granted to the said Spencer for abtaining a probate of said will in due form. Teste: William Blow.

Jordan Bass, son of Tabitha Bass, was born about 1750 in Virginia. He was a soldier in the Revolutionary War. Following the war, he settled in Randolph County, North Carolina. He married Rebecca. He continued to reside in North Carolina the remainder of his life. He died in 1808 in North Carolina. Following his death, his widow and his son, Henry Bass, and the latter's wife went to Indiana by ox team and covered wagon, settling near Connersville, Fayette County, where they resided until 1821. They then moved to Shelby County, Indiana.

February Term of Court 1808.



In the name of God - Amen - I Jordan Bass of the County of Randolph and State of North Carolina Being in Sound and Perfect Mind Memory (Bless be God) but knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die, do make this on the Sixteenth day of January in the Year of Our Lord one Thousand and Eight Hundred Make and Publish this my last Will and Testament in manner following:

That is to say principally and first of all I give and Recomment my Soul unto God That gave it, and My Body to the Earth to be buried in a decent and Christian manner at the direction of my Executors and as a touching the worldly estate Wherewith it has pleased God to Bless Me with in this life; I give and desire & Dispose of in the following manner & form, Viz: First it is my will & testament That at My Demise there be made a Just & True Inventory of all my personal Estate. I leave for the use of my Beloved Wife Rebecca Bass & also for Those of My Children for & during the said Rebeccas Natural Life or Widowhood or until my youngest sons arrive at full age, agreeable to a Law provided, She the said My Beloved Wife Rebecca Bass keep the Children with her on the premises allowed and endeavoring to keep, raise & maintain them until their arrival to Years of Maturity, I say I leave for their use my 2 tracts of Land, namely, the tract whereon I now live Containing 240 acres and the other tract immediately against which I bought from David Gibson, Containing two hundred and eighty acres, With so much of my personal Estate, Consisting of Horses, Cattle, Hogs, plantation tools, household furniture as She My Beloved Wife shall judge needful for their support, for and During the Above Mentioned time.

And further it is my Will & Desire that if my Beloved Wife should not live and should marry till after my youngest sons arrive at full age agreeable to law, I leave for Sole use & benefit for and During her Natural Life or Widowhood one nigar woman name Nan, 1 horse saddle and bridle, 1 feather bed & furniture, 1 pine chest, 1 Iron Pot, 1 small pewter dish, 1 Bason, 1 cow & calf, 1 sow & pigs, ½ doz. spoons. All the aforesaid Chattels I leave to my Beloved Wife only for & During her Natural Life of Widowhood, and after that to become the property of my heirs & none other.

Item I give and bequeath to my beloved son Arthur on his arrival at full age the tract of land above mentioned Whereon I now live.

Item I give to my son Henry the other tract of land which I bought from Gibson, also above mentioned, on his arrival at full age but still reserving to his brother Arthur the right to get from or upon it the Said Henry tract; lumber for repairs for the plantation for Buildings on his Sd. Arthur tract.

Item I give & Bequeath to my son Benjamin 1 tract of land which I bougth from Allen marshall, Containing 320 acres. Also it is Will & Desire that my other tract of land Containing 200 hundred acres be sold at public sale to the highest bidder & the money arrising from sale of same to be divided equally between my 2 sons Arthur and Henry.

Item It is my Will and Testament that such of Stock on hand Consisting of Goods and Chattels, or as much of them as my beloved Wife shall not need for her support or maintenance of my Children be sold except as herein Excepted & some of the same applied to the payment of Just debts and the residue to be divided by my Executors or distributed by them to be paid to my beloved Daughter Delilah and one hundred Dollars to my Beloved Daughter Jiney & 20 dollars to be applied to finishing the house which is now building on the tract of land I purchased from Gibson provided it is not completed before My Demise. Also I give & bequeath to my Daughter Tabitha on the day of her marriage or arrival at full age one hundred Dollars, also 1 cow, 1 calf, 1 featherbed. I give to my beloved Daughter Lucy $100.00, 1 cow, 1 calf, 1 featherbed and furniture, the money to be raised by a Second Sale at the time of my youngest son arrives to full age agreeable to law.

Item I give and Bequeath to my beloved sons Arthur and Henry, 1 horse saddle & bridley to be worth 80 dollars. Also to my son Benjamin 1 horse which he already claimed, 1 saddle, 1 bridle, 1 featherbed & furniture to each of my sons above mentioned it is my will & Testament that at the time my youngest son arrives at full age, agreeable to law, all the property consisting of Goods & Chattels which is not already bequeathed or Distributed be sold & Equally divided among all my Children after payment of above Legacies are made & done for both Sons & Daughters, namely Delilah, Jiney, Tabitha, Lucy, Benjamin, Henry, & Arthur & I have hereby make & declare & ordain My Beloved Wife Rebecca Bass Executor together with my worthy friend Josiah Linden Executor of my last Will & Testament - I set my hand & Seal, the day & year above written signed, sealed & published by Sd. Notes:

Zeno moved from Indiana to Kansas in 1867, and went on to Iowa in 1873. He farmed for 39 years. He later moved to Malvern in 1912. They travelled from Indiana to Kansas via covered wagon, after experiencing drought and a siege with the grasshooppers. They left Kansas and moved to a farm 5 miles southwest of Malvern, Iowa, where his son Louis lived until 1957, whien Louis' granson moved into the house (Richard). Zeno was a successful farmer and owner of a large farm. He raised Black Angus cattle. Later in life, Zeno and Harriet moved to Malvern where they built a new home in the northwest part of town. One of his great grandsons occupies the house at present (1980), Richard Bass, son of Austin Bass, son of Louis Bass, son of Zeno.

God called Vivian Rudeen home on June 7, 2017 at the age of 92. She is now enjoying a glorious reunion with family and friends.



Vivian was born July 29, 1924 to Lola and Roscoe Frasier in Ceresco, Nebraska. She attended the University of Nebraska, where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics. In 1950, she married the love of her life, Donald Rudeenwho preceded her in death in 1967.



She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Providing a loving, warm and comfortable home for her family was always her first priority. Her love lives in all of us and we ask you to keep David (Linda) Rudeen, Diane (Don) Alsbrooks, Becky (Bill) Sadler, Doug (Shawn) Rudeen and Amy (John) Fidel, as well as her 12 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren in your prayers.



Vivian taught in the Albuquerque Public Schools System for 20 years at Cortez and Zuni Elementary schools. After retirement, she found great joy as a volunteer with the Albuquerque Convention and Visitors Bureau.



Please join us for a celebration of her life Monday, June 19, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. at FRENCH /endash Westside. We would like to thank Bee Hive Home - Chessman and Heritage Hospice for their love and care of our mom.

Omaha. Darrell was preceded in death by parents, Glenn Manley Timmons and Irma Marie Hintz Timmons. He is survived by beloved wife of 57 years, Jeannine Elaine Timmons; children include son, Steven Glenn Timmons and wife, Judy; daughter, Debra Lynne Timmons Seaman and husband, Vincent; daughter, Sheryl Marie Timmons Smith and husband, Carl; grandchildren are Trevor and Auli Smith, Brian and Rachel Coyle, Rebecca Seaman, Sarah Seaman, Craig Timmons, and Brian Timmons; great-grandchildren are Owen Coyle and Brooke Coyle, all of Omaha, NE, also survived by sister, Nancy Ann Brockman and husband, Harold of Loudonville, N.Y.. Special thanks to caregivers at Brookestone Village for their love and support during his recent illness. He was owner of Timmons Contracting Corporation for many years and after retirement worked as a construction supervisor for Omaha Public Schools. He was devoted to his family and his special pet, Hannah.
