On a farm near Germantown, Ohio, Peter Dill was born. He was married to Emily Patton, who was born at Middletown, Ohio on April 21, 1809. Peter was born on October 2, 1807. To this union were born eleven children:
1. Lucy A., Feb 12, 1830 in Germantown, Ohio
2. Eurasmus, Dec. 7, 1831 in Germantwon, Ohio
3. Richard M., Aug. 7, 1833 in Germantown, Ohio
4. Jas M., Aug 14, 1835 in Germantown, Ohio
5. Sarah, Sep 14, 1838 in Cass Co., Indiana
6. Francis M., May 30, 1841 in Morgantown, Indiana
7. Mary (said to be a twin of Francis M)
8. Emeline, Sep 2, 1843 in Morgantown, Indiana
9. [Karen's note: there is no #9 in the list, it should be Harriet)
10. John M., Mar 23, 1849 in Morgantown, Indiana
11. Peter M., Dec 9, 1852 in Morgantown, Indiana
Sometime after 1835, the Dills sold their farms and in covered wagons started west to illinois. In Indiana, Peter Dill became so impressed with the country in Cass Co. he decided to go no further, so he and his wife and four children established a home where they lived until 1840, moving from there to Morgan Co. There they built a cabin on the banks of Stott's Creek a few miles north of Morgantown, Indiana.
Mr. Dill made a success and we might say a fortune as he cleared this land of hte heavy timber and brought these broad fertile acres into a state of production and the immense yield of grain was fed into hogs and cattle which made Mr. Dill a very wealthy man.
In his last years Peter Dill moved to Franklin, Ind. He died there on October 28, 188 at the age of 81. His wife, Emily, died 37 days later on november 29, 1888 at the age of about 80.
Richard Monroe Dill, the son of Peter and Emily Patton Dill, was born on August 17, 1833 ...[read remainder of article under Richard's notes]
In 1853, Peter Dill, William Lang and Harvey Coleman began cutting timber for the first mill built in Morgantown, Indiana. It was at this time that R.M. Dill became acquainted with Mr. Lang's daughter, Matilda.
When the mill was finished and in operation, Mr. Coleman sold his interests to Wm. Lang, who had acquired Peter Dill's interests and then sold the mill to Stevens and Robinson, later buying it back and taking in his son-in-law, R.M. Dill, as a ffull partner. This partnership continued till 1867 when R.M. Dill became the sole owner and the business was conducted as R.M. Dill and Sons. Mr. Waltman bought the mill in 1889 and converted the mill from an old burr type to a roller mill. Again in 1896 Mr. Dill purchased the mill.

Peter Dill of our city is still quite feeble and is confined to his home with heart trouble. He was eighty years old last October and his wife passed her eightieth birthday last month. This venerable couple had been married over fifty-nine years and of their eleven children all but one lived to have families of their own. The many friends of Mr. Dill throughout the county will unite with us in the hope for his recovery from his present illness.

Death of Peter Dill, Sr.
Peter Dill, who has been sick at his home in this city for many months, died on Tuesday evening at 5 o'clock. Mr. Dill was born in Ohio in 1807, but had been a resident of Indiana since 1836. He was married to Emily Patton fifty-nine years agoooo, who still survives him at the age of eighty years. He moved to Morgan county in 1840, where he remained until 1871 when he removed to this city. Mr. Dill was the father of eleven children, six sons and five daughters, of whom eight are living five sons and three daughters. In early life he united with the Baptist church but upon the disorganization of that church he joined the Christian church of which he remained a faithful member until death. Mr. Dill was a kind father, a good citizen and an exemplary Christian and in his death it can be said that the community has lost one of its worthiest members. His funeral was preached at the Christian church in this city on Thursday morning at 10:30 o'clock by Elder S. F. Fowler of Louisville.
