The Herculean Effort
Hey, who would be interested in a fun Olympic knit-along? A "Herculean Effort", if you will?
You're going to be knitting while you watch anyways, so why not go for a medal?
Here are the rules:
1. You can knit whatever you want.
2. You can't start before the Opening Ceremonies.
3. You end by the time the Closing Ceremonies conclude.
4. You send me a photo after it's done.
5. We vote on the results. Greatest number of votes gets the gold medal, second place gets a silver medal, etc.
Opening Ceremonies are Friday, August 13 at 8:00 pm ET, so we've got a few days to put this together. I will email a few of my favorite bloggers to generate some initial interest (I don't think I otherwise attract very many readers.)
The web page and signup form are up and running at http://www.road13.com/herculean.

I'll join you for this one. I'll be knitting a Sophie felted bag for a birthday present so that's perfect timing.

Cool idea! I'm looking around for a good project so I can join you. Don't cancel the knitalong. Even if it's just a small group, it's fun to know that others are knitting along. And it'd be easy to divvy up the medals that way! ;0)

Oops, too late - I already killed it. Alison, you were only the third person to respond. Oh well, I will follow along on your blog (as I already do anyway) to see what you are up to. I will still put forth a Herculean Effort to see what kind of knitting marathon I can complete. I'm sort of a couch potato when it comes to the Olympics. I just hope the US team doesn't get booed too badly. Thanks for your interest - maybe this will go over better for the 2006 Winter Olympics when we're all stuck inside the house. Late August is not exactly prime knitting season for most folks, I don't think.
